Buddhism has a long-standing tradition of vows and precepts. It is accepted that a certain degree of discipline is required for an individual to progress on the spiritual path. The purpose of offering vows and precepts is to assist practitioners in maintaining the level of discipline suitable for their personal situation. The refuge vow will be explained and offered on Saturday morning (please note: there will not be a separate refuge ceremony before the empowerment on Saturday evening). On Saturday afternoon Rinpoche will explain lay precepts, which will be given on Sunday morning. Also on Sunday morning an explanation of the bodhisattva vow will be offered. The bodhisattva vow will be bestowed on Sunday afternoon.
